The Australian Collectors & Debt Buyers Association (ACDBA) is an industry association representing members engaged in the collection and purchase of consumer and commercial debt across Australia. Established to support professional standards and drive regulatory reform, ACDBA works to enhance the legislative, regulatory, and compliance environment of the debt collection industry. By promoting ethical debt collection practices, ACDBA delivers measurable value to its members, their clients, and stakeholders across the credit and collections industry.

Membership is voluntary and open to all Australian debt collectors and debt buyers committed to responsible conduct and industry excellence.

The Purpose of ACDBA is to:

  • Monitor and respond to legislative, regulatory, and market changes that impact the debt collection and debt buying sector in Australia.
  • Provide a professional forum for members to exchange insights, strategies, and solutions on industry challenges and compliance issues.
  • Act as the unified voice of the Australian debt buying and collection industry, while supporting members’ individual advocacy efforts.
  • Engage with regulators, government, and industry bodies to influence policy, standards, and best practices — both locally and globally.
  • Serve as a public-facing resource and expert commentator on issues related to debt recovery, consumer credit, and compliance.
  • Support the credibility of our members by setting and promoting high standards of transparency, governance, and ethical behaviour.
  • Foster a culture of compliance and professionalism through shared values, industry codes, and continuous improvement.
